Code of Conduct

Below you can read the Code of Conduct that each Committee member agrees to when they begin their work with us.

For the Group: A BIMPOC Chicago Theatre Network is an anti-racist collective of Chicago-based theatre practitioners working to break down the barriers to equitable employment for BIMPOC designers, technicians, staging and production practitioners. The Committee’s mission is to uplift the BIMPOC members of our industry by providing a web-based platform to make their names, experience, and work known to hiring managers; to promote better hiring practices; and provide resources for anti-racist education.

In their daily lives, including work in this collective, Committee Members pledge to:

1. Name white supremacy and the impact of racism on their personal lives and professional lives.
Acknowledge the existence of systemically upheld white supremacy and racism, identify where they exist, and seize opportunities to dismantle them.

2. Personally engage in ongoing anti-racist education.
Anti-racism must be active. This work is never finished.

3. Allow open conflict and embrace discomfort.
Conflict is not abuse. When conflict arises, let it arise. Don’t try to hide it, delete it, or ignore it. Acknowledge the conflict, allow space for people to be heard, and deal with the underlying issue(s).

4. Recognize that differences in identities and experiences bring necessary depth to the work and make us better equipped to serve our community.
Embrace each other’s unique work styles, decision-making processes, and personal strengths. Assume the best intentions of others.

5. Work collaboratively to achieve the goals of For the Group.
This is a group of individuals who have volunteered to work as a collective. Respect everyone's time. Follow through on responsibilities and commitments. Ask for help when needed. Give help when able.

6. Uphold the mission, vision and values of For the Group.
